How to create a shortcut to the Matcha app

Here's a hack to create a shortcut to the Matcha web app on your smartphone's home screen

The Matcha Web App

Matcha's EV charging app is works through your phone's mobile browser, the same way, whether you have an iPhone or an Android. One limitation is you don't automatically get one of those nice looking app icon buttons we're all used to, but there is a hack to make your own 1-click shortcut (see below).

Some of the things you can do in the Matcha app:

Start a charge
Monitor an active charge session
See your charge history
See the availability of chargers you regularly use
Manage notifications
Submit a service request

🍎 iPhone Users:

  • While viewing the web app, tap the Share button in the menu bar.
  • Scroll down the list of options, then tap Add to Home Screen.
  • If you don’t see Add to Home Screen, you can add it. Scroll down to the bottom of the list, tap Edit Actions, then tap Add to Home Screen.

🤖 Android Users:

  • Open Google Chrome and go to the website.
  • Tap the three vertical dots button at the top right corner of the screen.
  • Select Add to Home Screen.
  • Tap Add to transfer it to the home screen.

Tip: Save your Matcha login information to whatever password auto-fill tool you use (e.g. 1Password, iCloud Keychain, Chrome Password Manager, etc.) and it'll save you one extra step when you have to login.

When you have the web app open in your mobile browser, click the Share button. This will pull up a menu; then click the Add to Home Screen button.
